Planning a Safari to Yankari Game Reserve? Here's What You Need to Know.
Wondering what to bring along? If you're traveling to the scenic wildlife, be sure your vehicle is in good condition and you have enough fuel to take you from the express way to the hotel.
The long road leading to the hotel is about an hour long, right in the middle of a forest. If your car stops, you may not find anyone to help you but you are very likely to find an animal crossing from one side of the road to the other. It's not the time for a bathroom break.π
If going to the game reserve itself be sure to wear long pants/trousers, long socks, long sleeve full coverage tops, covered shoes and at least a hand fan or scarf. These will help protect you from the swarm of stinging tse tse flies in the forest. Not the place for shorts and skimpy wear but you can try your hand. Listen to the ranger always (if you're not #IndianaJones).
In the Yankari Resort, keep your bag close to you with doors and windows firmly closed or locked. Walk around with a stick if you can. It's a π baboon and worth hog habitat. The cheeky baboons can snatch your bags and climb on a tree or disappear into the nearby bush π. They move around with their family members and community.
Pack your swim wear if you'd love to take a dive in the Wiki warm springs. It's quite a walk to get there so if you're not fit, you'll run out of breath. π¦
A little info about the Yankari Game Reserve:
Established in Bauchi State in 1956, it's a tourism destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Spanning over 2,244 square kilometers, it has the largest surviving population of elephants in West Africa. π
It's also home to critically endangered West African lions, hippos, antelopes, and over 350 species of vibrant birds.
New revitalization projects are going on this year to make the tourist treasure a safer and cozier place to be π³π¬✈️
