3. Referrals

Getting referred (verbally or in writing) by the right individual is a very effective networking approach that works in just about every context / country / sector. One way to do this is to go through your friends and personal contacts.

In Nigeria, for instance, it is not all about "what-you-know" but rather "who-you-know". A lot of companies land contracts through friends and acquaintances that are strategically positioned to vouch for you or your establishment.
